fk velez mostar is a professional football club based in the city of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Established in 1922, it is one of the oldest football clubs in the country and has a rich history filled with memorable moments.

The club's origins can be traced back to a local gymnastics society called Gajret. In 1903, Gajret established its own football section which eventually became known as Zrinjski. However, due to political tensions during World War I, Zrinjski was disbanded.

After the war ended, a group of young enthusiasts came together to revive football in Mostar. On December 4th, 1922, they officially founded fk velez mostar under its current name. The club was named after Mehmed-beg Kapetanović Ljubušak – also known as Veli Bey – a prominent figure from Mostar's history.

In its early years, FK Velez struggled to make an impact on the national stage. However, things started changing when Yugoslav league competitions were introduced after World War II. The club began competing at various levels until it finally reached Yugoslavia's top division – the Yugoslav First League – for the first time in its history during the 1971-1972 season.

Under coach Miroslav Blažević's guidance, FK Velez achieved remarkable success during this period. The team finished third in their debut season and went on to win two Yugoslav Cups (in 1981 and again in 1986). These achievements put FK Velez on the map as one of the strongest teams in Yugoslavia.

In addition to its domestic success, FK Velez also made a name for itself in European competitions. The club's most memorable European campaign came during the 1987-1988 season when they reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup (now known as the UEFA Europa League). Although they were eventually eliminated by German side Eintracht Frankfurt, it was a historic achievement for FK Velez.

After Bosnia and Herzegovina gained independence from Yugoslavia in 1992, FK Velez became part of the newly formed Bosnian football league system. The club continued to be competitive at domestic level and won several titles throughout the years.

One of FK Velez's biggest rivals is HŠK Zrinjski Mostar. The matches between these two clubs – known as "Mostarski derbi" – are highly anticipated by fans and often attract large crowds. The intense rivalry adds an extra layer of excitement to these encounters.

Unfortunately, like many other football clubs in Bosnia and Herzegovina, FK Velez has faced financial difficulties over the years. This has affected their ability to compete at higher levels consistently. However, despite these challenges, loyal fans continue to support their beloved team passionately.

Today, FK Velez plays its home matches at Stadion Rođeni ("Born Stadium") which can accommodate around 9,000 spectators. The stadium has witnessed many historic moments throughout the club's history.

fk velez mostar holds a special place in Mostar's sports culture and continues to inspire young talents in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Despite facing various obstacles along its journey, this resilient club remains an important symbol for its supporters.
