Abdul Ghaffar Khan (Executive Director, Dairy Development & Livestock Management) »
holds 30 years of experience in the livestock management & dairy deelopment, he holds a Ph.D in Animal nutrition. Dr. A. Ghaffar is currently working as National Project Director, Livestock Development and Meat Production Project. In many different projects he provided the services of Planning, monitoring and executing the research and development in the field of livestock and dairy production, nutrition, fodder production, feed technologies and feeding systems for different ecological zones of Pakistan. He has provided country wide technical assistance to public and private investors for the establishment of dairy, meat and poultry farms and feed mills in Pakistan. Prepared several development projects PC-1 on demonstration of feed technologies and feeding systems to enhance livestock productivity, Currently, executing a development project on “development of milk replacer (substitute of whole milk) and early weaning diets for sustainable calf rearing” with an ultimate output of new feeding system for calves to promote livestock business. He has been involved in Development of courses for secretaries of Village Livestock Associations (VLA’s), their member farmers, rural women and in-service personnel. Teaching all kind of students in the field of livestock/dairy and fodder production coupled with milk handling and collection. Organizing village based training. Dr. Ghaffar has provided Technical assistance for establishment of dairy and beef farms and assisted General Manager, Field Services Organization in planning and formulation of policies to achieve project targets under different projects. The Publication of two Books for livestock farming community is on his credit. He has provided his consultancy services for several projects of UNDB, FAO, Government of Pakistan, EU, International Livestock Research Institute, Kenya, IUCN.
is Ph.D. in Agriculture Education (Extension Education) from Iowa State University U.S.A. He has diverse experience of Education, Extension, Research and Administration & Management in various settings including national and international organizations (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations). Being and Extension Expert in Livestock, Dr Soomro has significantly contributed in developing strategies for livestock development in Balcohistan and Sindh. The incumbent has good interpersonal communication skills at national and International level. He has worked with international consultants and was one of the key, members of UNDP team who developed PC-I on Area Development Program Balochistan.
As a teacher he has taught courses at graduate and post-graduate leading to PhD degree program at Sindh Agriculture University. He has served as member on many academic bodies at Department, Faculty and University level. He has extended his expertise for development of curriculum for Agriculture Education to National Committee on Curriculum development, Higher Education Commission Islamabad. As a researcher he has served member on various supervisory committees and helped students in development of synopsis, conduct of research and dissertation writing. He is well versed with selection, procurement, installation and operation of various laboratory equipments used in agriculture research.
Dr Soomro has received his D.V.M and M.Sc. degrees from Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam in 1977 and 1984 respectively and Ph.D degree from Iowa State University, USA in 1991. He has more than 50 publications in his credit, which have been published in various national and international journals.
holds a Bachelors degree in Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Sciences from the University of Punjab Pakistan & M.Sc. in Agriculture Extension with specific focus on Livestock Production Extension from the University of Reading United Kingdom. He has more than 20 years experience in the fields of improving health care services for community livestock, implementing livestock breed improvement campaigns, promoting rural poultry production at supervisory, managerial and administrative positions in the provincial Livestock and Dairy Development Department.
He has extensive experience on the public sector and donor funded projects related to livestock, dairy and food and agriculture sectors. He has undertaken Multisectoral Area Development projects which aimed at poverty alleviation through participatory approach Mr. Hassani Under took various researches on the occurrence of livestock diseases. Initiated and strengthened community managed animal health care services. Developed and disseminated alternative animal feeding technologies. Demonstrated and strengthened backyard poultry production and animal fattening technologies in Women Community Organizations of any different projects.
